Who I am.

I write about the landscape of grief, nature, and the wisdom of fools. The author of four books, my essays, poems, and reviews have been published in over 50 journals, including in the Huffington Post and Colorado Review. I’ve won the River Teeth Nonfiction Book Award, the Chautauqua and Literal Latte’s essay prizes, and my work has been nominated for four Pushcart Prizes and named a notable by Best American Essays. Visions of Heaven



Our ideas about heaven have changed over the centuries, mostly its location and what it physically looks like in a misty, vaporous kind of way.
The Jewish philosopher Maimonides took a different approach than the endless philosophical and theological discussions, and said that it's best not to speculate too much on the afterlife because we can’t prove what happens there. It is better, he said, to focus on taking care of people here.
